New York Remote Online Notary Overview

At Steven Mobile Notary, we make online notarization simple, legal, and secure for residents of New York and beyond. Here’s how the process works:

Step 1: Confirm Your Document Can Be Notarized Online

Before scheduling, ensure your document is eligible for Remote Online Notarization (RON). While most documents qualify, real estate transactions may still require in-person notarization. If you’re signing a mortgage, deed, or closing package, verify acceptance with your Title Company and Lender. This step avoids delays and ensures your notarized documents will be accepted.

Step 2: Verify Your Identity

New York law requires valid government-issued ID for online notarization. You must present an unexpired U.S. driver’s license or U.S. passport.

No valid ID? In certain cases, we may be able to use a credible witness to verify your identity.

What Is a Credible Witness?

A credible witness is someone who:

  • Personally knows you,

  • Presents valid ID,

  • Swears under oath to your identity and explains why you can’t provide traditional ID.

This ensures accessibility for clients with lost, stolen, or expired identification.

Step 3: Meet with the Notary Online

Once your identity is verified, you’ll join a secure video session with Steven Mobile Notary. During the appointment, we will:

  • Review your document

  • Witness your electronic signature

  • Apply an official e-notary seal and signature

All sessions are recorded and encrypted for your protection and legal compliance.

Step 4: Receive Your Notarized Document

After completion, you’ll receive your digitally notarized document via secure download. It’s ready to email, print, or upload wherever it needs to go.
